The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 vs. the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 6: Electric Crossover vs. Electric Sedan

The estimated electric range for both EV models depends on trim level, specifically whether the EV is equipped with a single or dual electric motor system. The IONIQ 5 SE Standard Range has a 245-mile driving range, while the SE with an RWD motor travels 318 miles. When the SE is equipped with an AWD electric motor, it has a 290-mile range. 

The IONIQ 6 SE Standard Range has a single RWD motor that can travel 240 miles on a single charge. The IONIQ 6 with the biggest range is the SE RWD, which has a 342-mile range, while the IONIQ 6 SE AWD has a 316-mile electric range. 

Charging

Charging your EV is another important consideration. Both of the IONIQ base trims can use a Level 2 charger to restore the battery to 100% in around five and a half hours. The dual-motor IONIQ 5 SE can charge with a Level 2 charger in seven hours and 20 minutes, while the IONIQ 6 SE needs just under seven hours. 

The IONIQ 5 is compatible with DC Fast Charging, which can be done in about half an hour with a NACS supercharger or an hour with a 50 kW charger.  

Exterior

The IONIQ 6 comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, which are traded for 20-inch alloys on the SEL model. Projector-type LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, and high beam assist technology are standard to ensure you have a clear view of the road in all lighting conditions. 

The IONIQ 5 has 19-inch alloy wheels, as well as standard LED headlights. The SEL model features power-folding side mirrors for added utility and vehicle protection. This model also has active lower front grille shutters to improve EV motor ventilation and solar-control front glass to reduce UV heat build-up in the cabin. 

Interior

The IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 are both equipped with a 12.3-inch multimedia hub with a built-in navigation system. The IONIQ 5 comes with traffic update information via HD Radio, while the IONIQ 6 has a complimentary three-month trial for SiriusXM radio. Both models also have a 12.3-inch digital cluster with an EV Technology Display to track battery charge status.
